“The focus is on the development of a one-to-one relationship with the therapist. The relationship can take on many facets depending on the approach the therapist is using, but most often involves the creation of an accepting atmosphere along with the use of techniques for the purpose of symptom reduction and/or personal development. The individual is engaged in a self-reflective process on his or her emotions and behaviors” (Tomasulo, 2015).

“Typically rests on the dynamic interaction of the members of the group. The emphasis is on helping participants understand the projection they have toward other members, while learning from the feedback they receive from others, including the therapist” (Tomasulo, 2015).

“Usually involves an intense focus on improving the communication pattern within the couple. Unlike individual therapy, couple’s therapy involves the therapist entering the couple’s way of life more directly. They bring their habits and routines with each other directly into the session. The therapist is involved in analyzing and offering feedback about the interactions the couple is having, and makes suggestions about ways to improve it. It is typically considered more intensive than individual therapy because both partners are invited to co-create the process of change” (Tomasulo, 2015).

Our next phase of development (early 2023) will center around providing group therapeutic services. Our goal is to provide support for individuals facing chronic and terminal illnesses. As this is both an important and sensitive area of care, we will endeavor to ensure that an appropriate amount of time and resources are allocated to its launch. For that reason, please check back here in early 2023 or contact us for updates.

Christian Counseling

Christian counseling is a therapy focus area centering on intertwining the disciplines of faith and psychology to provide an approach to mental and emotional health that pulls from biblical teachings. Practitioners of this style of counseling incorporate religious scripture and teachings to guide you through challenging life issues. When facing turbulent life events, integrating and strengthening your faith may be the missing piece in finding proper treatment. A Christian counselor can help you to navigate life’s challenges in ways that respect your faith.

Depending upon the source, you may hear the terms Christian Counseling, Biblical Counseling and Pastorl Counseling used interchangeably. At Dynamic Counseling and Coaching Solutions (in an effort to differentiate the terms) we use the term Christian Counseling to indicate either the practice of psychotherapy by a state licensed clinician or the practice of counseling by a licensed Christian Counselor. Both of these (in the way we are using the terms) differ from Biblical Counseling which is more the domain of clergy and lay ministry.

Life Coaching

A life coach is someone who aims to help and empower others to make, meet and exceed personal and professional goals. This can include excelling in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled at home, exploring your potential and achieving ambitions. One difference between counselling and life coaching is that counselling can investigate the underlying causes of mental health problems. Life coaching focuses more so on the future to encourage personal-development and self-improvement. Life coaches are not (unless specified) qualified to diagnose or treat any health-related problems, although if the situation arises they may suggest you see a GP.
